The long-awaited migration of Ethereum to the PoS (proof-of-stake) consensus mechanism, following being delayed several times, seems to take place this August. One of the chief Ethereum network developers, Preston Van Loon – while appearing at the Permissionless conference, stated that the evolution (called The Merge) would take place in the coming August if all moves in line with the strategy.

Van Loon mentioned in front of up to 5000 people present on the occasion that the group was pursuing the transition in advance of the supposed difficulty bomb that would harm the reputation of the network. As per him, he considers that August would be the likely time for the respective happening if they do not undergo some difficulties in this respect.

Justin Drake, a researcher from Ethereum, reiterated the same feelings, saying that guaranteeing the rapidness of the Merge’s activities was the most significant thing, expressing his utmost intention to translate this into reality in August without being stuck by the difficulty bomb. The “difficulty bomb” is a term meaning the program that is coded into the blockchain of Ethereum and deliberately causes slowness in the network.

The respective mechanism was developed to boost the evolution of PoS by turning it into an additionally had for the miners to remain back on the PoW (proof-of-work) chain following The Merge. On 11th April, Tim Beiko – an Ethereum developer – declared that the deployment of The Merge had been carried out for another time. As per Beiko, notwithstanding an effective test of shadow fork, The Merge’s implementation would not expectedly be done in June.

In his words, the developers require to take action at a rapid pace for being prevented the difficulty bomb, or else, there would be a need for the launch of yet some other update for the procrastination in the bomb. He added that if the consumer developers are not confident about their potential to get The Merge deployed to the mainnet in advance of a huge slowness in the block times, another delay will be required then.

The timeline recommitment is witnessed at the time of the news that an enormous testing milestone will be achieved by the Ethereum network, with the pledge of Ropsten testnet Merge scheduled to be steered on 8th June. In the Ropsten testnet Merge a combination of a testnet network based on PoW and a unique layer testnet based on PoS consensus will occur.
